Objectives

In brief: Objectives of the Islamic Institute of Advanced Research: advanced Islamic research, preservation of the Hanafi and Sufi traditions, accessible e-learning, spiritual formation and service to humanity.

The Islamic Institute of Advanced Research exists to make serious Islamic scholarship and spiritual formation available to those who are qualified and sincere, wherever they live.

Our principal objectives

  1. Teach from the sources. Ground every programme in the Qur’an, Hadith, Sunnah and Seerah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
  2. Preserve the tradition. Transmit the jurisprudence of Imam Abu Hanifa, the rulings of Imam Ahmad Raza Khan, and the teachings of the Naqshbandi Mujaddidi and other Sufi silsilas in Islam.
  3. Promote research. Guide candidates to produce honest, original, well-referenced dissertations in their chosen specialisation.
  4. Open access through e-learning. Although our physical location is in Phoenix, Arizona, we teach by e-learning because most of our students are working adults, have families or study other secular degree programmes.
  5. Form character. Encourage adab, remembrance of Allah and service as part of every student’s learning.
  6. Prepare leaders. Equip graduates to serve as teachers, imams, callers to Islam, administrators, finance professionals and researchers.
  7. Foster peace and respect. Promote compassion for all creation and respectful engagement with other faiths and viewpoints.
  8. Keep education affordable. As a not-for-profit religious institution, charge substantially lower fees than for-profit secular institutions, with financial aid for eligible candidates on the basis of need and merit.
